On March 18, 2024, Chief Hoskin signed an amended and expanded version of the Verna Thompson Early Childhood Act. The new law doubled authorized spending on Head Start facility replacement and requires a biennial report.
A reconvened Child Care Task Force was also assigned to examine gaps in child care for the Cherokee Nation workforce and other related entities. The task force also further examined a possible consolidation of Head Start and Child Development Center Operations.
The report was finalized and released January 13, 2025.
