The Prevention Program is our public outreach arm. Prevention encompasses all aspects of mitigating wild fires on our lands. We arrange Smokey Bear visits to schools, provide fire prevention messages to the media, create and administer adult fire education programs, assist with training courses for firefighters and cooperating agencies, and participate in public festivals and events to bring fire safety awareness to our citizens and neighbors.
In addition, our Prevention personnel investigate fires to collect important information about the causes and origins of fires on our lands. This data helps them to target public education to prevent and reduce common wildfire causes.
